We are proud to announce that the INTSIMBI Future Production Technologies Initiative, a partnership between the dtic and PtSA, has officially approved the purchase of a new facility. This will serve as the future home of the PtSA Centre of Excellence Western Cape and will feature a dedicated research and development hub for South Africa’s TDM industry.

A New Chapter for the South African Tooling Industry

The purchase of this new facility marks a significant milestone in the growth and advancement of South Africa’s tooling sector. By establishing a world-class research and development centre in Parow, the initiative aims to foster innovation, and industry collaboration both locally and globally.

What to Expect from the New PtSA Centre of Excellence Western Cape

Once fully operational, the PtSA Centre of Excellence Western Cape will provide an array of services designed to meet the evolving needs of the TDM industry in South Africa. The Centre will become a hub for training, research, and innovation, offering:

  1. TDM Industry Research and Development – Local and International
    The Centre will be a leading research hub, contributing to both local and international advancements in tooling, die, and mould technologies. It will play a key role in advancing the TDM sector’s global competitiveness.
  2. PtSA TDM Powered Apprenticeship Programme – Western Cape
    The programme will be offered at the new Centre and aims to equip the next generation of toolmakers with the practical skills and hands-on experience required for a successful career in the tooling industry.
  3. Toolmaker Trade Testing – Western Cape
    In line with the goal of elevating the quality of South Africa’s workforce, the Centre will also provide trade testing for toolmakers to ensure they are certified to meet both local and international industry standards.
  4. PtSA Short Duration Upskilling Programmes
    The Centre will offer short-duration courses and training programmes designed to upskill across various disciplines within the tooling industry. These programmes will help companies to remain competitive by expanding their expertise in emerging technologies and practices.
  5. Master Toolmaker Programme – National Centre
    In an effort to create world-class toolmaking talent, the Centre will also host the Master Toolmaker Programme, a SAQA recognised qualification that will set South African toolmakers apart on the global stage.

Looking Ahead: A Vision for the Future

The PtSA project team is actively engaged in planning the operational requirements for the new Parow facility. Relocation to the new Centre is scheduled for December 2025, marking the beginning of a new era for the Western Cape’s tooling sector. The Centre will not only serve as a hub of innovation but will also contribute to job creation, skills development, and economic growth in the region.

As the South African TDM industry continues to evolve, this investment into infrastructure, education, and research will play a pivotal role in shaping its future. The  PtSA Centre of Excellence Western Cape is poised to be at the forefront of this transformation, creating a stronger, more competitive TDM industry that can thrive on both local and international platforms.
