PtSA Open Day Recap – Gauteng

The recent PtSA Open Day held at the PtSA Centre of Excellence, Gauteng, brought together industry leaders, stakeholders, and aspiring toolmakers for a dynamic day of engagement, knowledge-sharing, and opportunity. The event shone a spotlight on the importance of skills development in the Tool, Die and Mould (TDM) sector, while creating valuable connections between industry and the next generation of talent.

Industry members were welcomed with personalised one-on-one tours of the PtSA  Centre of Excellence, Gauteng facilities, led by Charl Labonte, Ruann Grobbelaar, Francois Beetge, and Boitumelo Mosupyoe. These tours provided an inside look at the state-of-the-art training environment that equips future toolmakers with the skills needed to thrive in the sector.

Following the tours, in-depth discussions took place around potential student sponsorship opportunities and the benefits of PtSA membership, highlighting how industry involvement plays a vital role in growing South Africa’s manufacturing capabilities.

Inspiring the Next Generation of Toolmakers

Applicants to the TDM Powered Apprenticeship Programme were given a comprehensive presentation on the TDM industry, gaining valuable insight into the trade, career prospects, and its importance to the broader manufacturing landscape. They were also taken on a guided facility tour and received support with the enrolment process, ensuring they have the tools and information needed to take their first step into a rewarding career.

Showcasing Industry Expertise

The event also featured several PtSA institutional members who showcased their contributions to the industry, offering attendees a closer look at the innovative work being done in the sector.

In total, 14 industry members and stakeholders attended, along with exhibitors and applicants, making for a productive and inspiring day of connection, collaboration, and career-building.
