PtSA is the collective voice of the Tooling industry in South Africa.

What is tooling?

Tooling enables the manufacturing of goods. When we refer to tooling, we mean the Tool, Die, and Mould (TDM) industry. Common types of tooling include dies for metal pressing, stamping, punching, and forming, injection and compression moulds, jigs and fixtures, assembly systems and robotics, gauging and measuring systems, and precision components.

Who is PtSA?

The Production Technologies Association of South Africa (PtSA) is a non-profit membership organisation founded in 2006. Our mission is to promote, protect, and support the Tool, Die, Mould, and Special Machining (TDM) industry in South Africa to grow and develop the national Manufacturing sector.

Promotes and facilitates improvements in efficiency, competitiveness and profitability of its members through world-class programmes.

Offers skills development programmes to ensure the required skills are available and existing skills are continuously being advanced.

Offers and facilitates networking, matchmaking and information programmes for the benefit of its members.

Facilitates the establishment and growth of the TDM sector across the African continent for the benefit of manufacturing.

Together with the members, acts as the collective voice of the industry when engaging with government and authorities.

Guide members to understand 4th Industrial Revolution, the impacts of digital transformation, and how to adapt to these technologies.

Facilitates opportunities for members to make use of its international networks via its leadership roles in ISTMA.

Promotes the pathway to the future through sustainable development.

After undergoing a PtSA Enterprise Development Benchmarking and Intervention Project, Emile Coetzee, owner of Capewell Springs and Metal Pressings, said “the benchmarking process really made us aware of our shortcoming and potentials. The subsequent intervention project was critical in helping the company with the implementation and execution of the needed changes. We are extremely positive about the results of this project”.

“We participated in a re-benchmarking exercise by PtSA Enterprise Development (ED), and the effects of the intervention in 2017 were still clearly visible when comparing our current results with those of the initial benchmarking exercise in 2017. Being able to benchmark against best practice of not only South African, but German and Chinese tooling and precision engineering companies, is most useful. We are planning to work closely with the PtSA ED team to better understand and implement the areas recommended for improvement at our company following the benchmarking process
