Industry in Action: GPCOE 2025 MA Group Excursion

On Tuesday, 24 June, the PtSA Centre of Excellence, Gauteng, 2025 MA Group had the opportunity to experience the automotive tooling sector up close, thanks to an inspiring and informative excursion hosted by Thai Summit Autoparts Industry South Africa CO (Pty) Ltd.

The group was warmly welcomed with hot beverages and snacks, setting the tone for a day filled with learning, connection, and real-world exposure.

The visit offered valuable insights into some of the production techniques used in automotive tooling, along with a guided tour of the company’s impressive production facilities and toolroom. It was a chance for candidates to see advanced tooling practices in action, ask questions, and better understand how different departments and roles contribute to the larger manufacturing ecosystem.

This successful outing was the result of a collaboration between Charl Labont (PtSA Industry Development Manager, Gauteng North) and Dimakatso Nesidoni (Training Development/Talent Officer at Thai Summit Autoparts). Their shared commitment to skills development in the Tool, Die and Mould (TDM) sector made the experience both meaningful and memorable.

One of the key takeaways for the candidates was recognising just how interconnected the tooling industry is. While each toolroom may differ in size, focus, or setup, the sector functions as a close-knit community where collaboration and knowledge-sharing are central to success.

Special thanks go to:

  • Ayanda Fadane-Malepe, HRN Manager, and Dimakatso Nesidoni for planning and coordinating the visit in partnership with PtSA.
  • Silvester Ringane, HR Administrator, who led the group through company induction and shared key policies – as well as organising the refreshments.
  • Colbert Mashigo, Tooling Maintenance Engineer, for his engaging and insightful tour through the facility and toolroom.

Together, we are building the future of tooling – one experience at a time.
