Bob Williamson, ISTMA World President and Executive Director of PtSA (Production Technologies Association of South Africa), has been awarded the prestigious Tool and Mould Making Medal of Honour at this year’s Moulding Expo in Stuttgart, Germany.
Presented annually since the inception of the Moulding Expo, the award honours trailblazers whose innovative spirit and commitment have significantly shaped the global tooling industry. As President of ISTMA World, Bob has played a pivotal role in uniting the international tooling community. Under his leadership, ISTMA has become a central voice for the industry, engaging with national associations and international policy bodies.
A Legacy of Passion, Commitment, and Advocacy
Bob’s South African colleagues know him as a global ambassador for the tooling sector and a passionate local leader. As PtSA’s National Secretary, he has been instrumental in advocating for the growth, recognition, and competitiveness of South Africa’s tooling industry.
Renowned for his hands-on involvement and unwavering dedication, Bob is respected worldwide for his efforts to amplify the industry’s voice and visibility. His leadership has elevated the profile of a sector fundamental to manufacturing and industrial innovation.
“I believe our industry is the glue that holds together the entire manufacturing value chain,” said Williamson upon receiving the medal. “Too often, our contributions go unnoticed, but I’ve always accepted responsibility to change that. Without the Tool, Die and Mould Making sector, the threat of deindustrialisation becomes very real. I’m deeply honoured by this award and remain committed to advancing our industry wherever I can.”
Recognition That Inspires the Next Generation
Richard Pergler, who oversees the award, emphasised that the medal is not merely a recognition of past achievements.
“This award isn’t just a lifetime achievement trophy, it’s a statement of confidence in those who continue to inspire and lead,” Pergler noted. “Winners like Bob are role models, especially for young professionals entering the field, showing what’s possible through dedication and vision.”
